What hand luggage is

Hand luggage is the items you bring into the cabin. Low-cost carriers often allow only one item of strictly limited size (usually up to 10 kg), and it may not be included in the fare at all. Size and weight are checked at the boarding gate.

Checked baggage

Checked baggage is handed in at the hold. Its weight and number depend on the fare: from free baggage to a paid option. The norm for most airlines is 20-23 kg per suitcase. Excess is charged separately and can cost more if paid at the airport.

How to check the norms before flying

Before buying, look at the «Baggage and fare» section in the ticket card - it states what is included. If the fare does not include baggage, check the airline's website: low-cost carriers sell baggage in advance at a big discount.

Tip

Take medicines, documents, electronics and valuables only in hand luggage - they can go missing in checked baggage. Liquids in hand luggage: no more than 100 ml in containers up to 1 litre.
